The turnoff to Potter’s Hill Road from the Phillip Island Road is approximately five kilometres west of the Anderson Roundabout. Access to the Potter’s Hill Road locality is via a winding track, from the car park at the end of the road, down to the beach. The view from the track down is quite spectacular and is a prime example of the many sandy beaches and rocky promontories that characterise the Bass Coast. The rocky shore platform at this locality is quite rough and fairly narrow so care should be taken when visiting this site. The best time to visit is at low tide when the sea is quite calm. A few bone fragments have been found exposed in the rocks at the end of Potter’s Hill Road, but it is more important as the gateway to a fossil locality that is not marked on any official map: Rowell’s Beach.
