Marengo

Marengo lies a few kilometres south of Apollo Bay on a small headland named by Nicholas Baudin, captain of the French expedition which mapped the coast in 1802. The Marengo Reefs Marine Sanctuary is a great place to snorkel and dive. In 1985 part of an ornithopod dinosaur (small plant-eater) femur (thigh bone) was found at Marengo and in 2010 freshwater crustacean burrows were discovered on the rocky shore platform. The area west of Cape Marengo is home to over 350 footprints.
