Kilcunda foreshore

The shore platform, stretching from Shelly Beach to Cemetery Point, has produced a number of isolated fossil bones over the years. The flat, rocky platform is made up of large areas of barren sandstone probably representing a large, fast flowing river, often iron-stained, but there are small patches of conglomerate that have yielded bones. The shore platform is very broad along this part of the Bass Coast and erosion has produced some very interesting rocky sculptures. It is well worth a walk out onto the platform at low tide even if you don’t find any fossils.
